Domino's I know a lot of people don't like their pizza as much as, say, Papa John's (personally, I like them both, just at different times), but I have to give Domino's credit for being seriously user-friendly. They give delivery time estimates BEFORE you submit your order. They give you a real-time status of your order (whether it's faked or not, I don't really care-- it does its job and makes me feel better). Their online ordering interface has just gotten cleaner and cleaner, while Papa John's and Pizza Hut haven't changed theirs in ages. And, I learned just now, they've gotten real smart about gift cards. You can now ask the driver to bring along up to two empty Domino's gift cards and then-- shock of shocks-- add value to the card YOURSELF, online. Why haven't other stores done this? I've never seen another merchant that lets customers add value to their own gift cards, it always has to be done in person, at a cashier.
Anyway, I'm babbling, and hungry. Luckily, Donald put my pizza in the oven a few minutes ago, so it shouldn't be too long before I get some pizza.

μSDHCPSA An online store I use is having a Black Friday sale, and they're selling 4GB SanDisk microSDHC cards with SD adapters for $10. I'm planning on picking up one or two for myself, and I figured if anyone else wants one I could grab some more and save on shipping. For those of you that don't know, microSD is a format that can be used in a whole lot of electronic devices, if you have the right adapter; they work in devices that support:- microSD cards, obviously
- SD cards (adapter included)
- miniSD cards (needs an adapter)
- Memory Stick Pro Duo cards (needs an adapter)-- this includes the PSP, for anyone that has one of those things
Also, you can get some fairly adorable little USB readers that are barely larger than the card itself, giving you a tiny little USB flash drive. One thing to note, though, is that this card (like every SD card over 2GB) is an SDHC card, which isn't backwards-compatible with older devices. If you have an SD, miniSD, or microSD device, make sure it actually supports SDHC/miniSDHC/microSDHC before you get one of these.
So, anyone want one? If you live in my area or are going to be seeing me soon (hint hint, Threads-folk), let me know BY SUNDAY and I'll get one for you.
In other news, I'm starting back on the Everyman sleep schedule. Hooray for me!

New relationship, BDSM, thoughts on dominance [Note: I'll be touching on aspects of my sexuality in this post, specifically BDSM. If that bothers you, don't read.]
( Quick life update, if you haven't seen me in a while )
One of the things that I find most difficult about being in a D/s relationship is having someone else do things for me. I don't mean in the bedroom; my psyche is used to the idea that the same rules of social behavior just don't apply in sexual situations as they do otherwise. But little things, like "make my bed", or "get me a glass of milk", or "look this up for me"... I was raised to think it the height of rudeness to ask someone else to do something that I can do perfectly easily myself. So I always feel like I should be ashamed of myself for asking these things. I brought this up with the guy who gave a lecture at Black Rose on Tuesday, Master David. He pointed out that having my submissive do something for me isn't just for me; it makes her feel good to be able to do things for me, given the nature of our relationship. So, in a way, giving her things to do is something I can do for her, as well.
It wasn't until today, though, that it occurred to me just how symmetric this really is. (And that's something that I've chatted with her about that I mean to make into a real post someday: the unexpectedly symmetric nature of a relationship based on a power imbalance.)
eagle_fire is a fiercely independent person, and in her own life she makes her own decisions and doesn't generally let her peers tell her what to do. She chooses to sacrifice a good deal of this independence, though, in her relationship with me; both because it pleases her to do so, and because her submission to me strengthens the bond we share. The nature of our relationship doesn't make her any less independent as a person.
Similarly, I am a fiercely self-sufficient person, and in my own life I do things for myself and don't generally let my peers do things for me when I can do them on my own. I choose to sacrifice a good deal of my self-sufficiency in my relationship with her; both because I enjoy having things done for me, and because my reliance on her strengthens the bond we share. I've been trying to figure out how to deal with the guilt and shame of having someone do simple things for me, but I've been looking at it wrong. This is a thing that I do for her. And there is no shame in asking someone to do something they enjoy, nor in choosing to strengthen a relationship. So the guilt I feel boils down to something very simple, something I realize is a wide-ranging pattern in my life: receiving pleasure makes me feel selfish. I need to do something about that, I think. But for now, I think I can content myself with this: the nature of my relationship with eagle_fire does not make me any more selfish of a person.

No news is not always good news So, not quite ready to make a REAL real post, but this is pretty important, so I figure now that I'm not crying about it I should tell y'all.
I got fired from my job. And they were kinda assholes about it, I had to find out from the security guard who detained me when I went in for work yesterday. I'm not entirely certain why, since I was doing good work there; I have my suspicions, but I'm not going to air them in a public forum. If you really want the details feel free to talk to me privately.
I expect I'll find new employment before too long, but I just wanted to let folks know why I might be in a slightly less sociable a mood than usual for the next little while.

No real post yet! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who made it to my shindig last Saturday. It was a rousing success, and I'm actually a bit glad that (a) one of my local friends was also throwing a party on the same day, and (b) I announced it too late for any of my out-of-town friends to make plans to attend. Because this little apartment was filled pretty much exactly to capacity... a few more people and I think it would have felt crowded. So I'm not, after all, going to be throwing a bash here, since it just wouldn't fit... but then again, I'm only living in this apartment until the beginning of October, and I very much plan to have a bigger place after this one. So at that point, let's see how big a space we can fill up, okay? =D

Marylanders! In honor of actually having a place to live that isn't my parents' house, I'm throwing a shindig at my apartment this Saturday, August 16. Expect some video games (Rock Band and Mario Kart Wii will both be making an appearance), some food (I'll be baking pizza, since it's been a while since I last did that), maybe a movie if people are in the mood, and some chill hanging out. zaling will be there as well, of course, since she lives there and all, as will my other flatmate whom most of you don't know. Things will probably get started around 18 (6 PM to you 12-hour folks) or so, though if you want to hang with us while we prepare, you can come over earlier (no earlier than 14, though, please!). If you're interested in coming, comment or email and I'll send you directions. If you're interested in drinking, please bring either some alcohol or some money. And if you feel like bringing other partyables (snacks, food, games of the video or non- varieties) be my guest, though you might want to let me know to make sure you're not duplicating.
And if you can't make it this Saturday, don't worry, I plan on throwing an actual bash here at some point over the next couple months, with more advance notice, better planning, and fewer parenthetical statements. I do hope you can come this Saturday, though, it should be awesome!
(Also, someday I'll actually post to LJ again for reals. I promise.)

Sorry I've kinda dropped off the face of the earth for the last few weeks, I know. For everyone I've been meaning to get in touch with (some of you know who you are, some don't) I'm sorry I haven't yet. I'm currently recuperating from a bout with Lyme disease, and it's left me in severe pain for 8-12 hours out of the day. I'm on antibiotics for it and it should blow over in another week or so (I hope), but until then I'm only halfway here.
On the upside, Lyme isn't contagious, so if I've seen you recently, you don't have to worry you might have caught something from me.
I miss you all. Hope to see you soon.

PSA It's been a long time since I posted, I know. Maybe one of these days I'll actually start posting for real again. Until then, you should probably start following my twitter if you want to hear from me, either from Twitter itself (my username is Cirne) or by adding cirne_twitter to your LJ friends list.
Anyway, I just had to post because one year ago today, my lovely girlfriend lira_chan and I started dating. It's been an up and down year, but overall the last year has been good for me and I've been happy a lot more often than I've been sad. I love you, Lira. Happy anniversary!

RP character question meme Okay, I suppose I might as well jump on the wandbagon, since Everyone Else Is Doing It. I'm doing zombie_dog's variant, where you can ask questions of any of my characters, not just LARP.
Here's how it works. You can ask any question to any of my LARP, tabletop or online roleplaying characters. I've listed some of them below, but you can talk to others I've forgotten to list by addressing them directly. They may not answer you truthfully, but they will answer.
- Seth Chappell (ParaCentury director and creepy bastard, Threads of Damocles)
- Conrad Blake (Element-wielder, Creator-Destroyer [Age of Corporations])
- Ana Maria Costanza (JET Team B infiltration specialist, Threads of Damocles)
- Elise Bauckmann (Artificer apprentice, Age of Corporations)

Everyman, Day 13 ( Day 13 report )
I discovered something interesting as I was playing around with sound files last night, and that's that LAME, the open-source MP3 encoder, is very efficient at encoding periods of silence into an MP3. So I made another sleep track, much like the one I use for my naps. Only, in between the going-to-sleep sounds (a binaural beat that cycles from 15Hz down to 5Hz to encourage my brain to slow down and prepare for sleep) and the wake-up sounds (a binaural beat cycling back up to 15Hz, as well as various alarm-type sounds: chickens clucking, roosters crowing, music, etc.), instead of 20 minutes of white noise, there are 3 hours of silence. The size? It weighs in at 16MB for the 3-hour long track. That's pretty impressive, I think. And, better, it wakes me up much more pleasantly than the alarm clock... though, of course, I keep the alarm set, just in case I decide not to wake up to the MP3.
It worked this morning, though, at least. I woke up after my 3 hours, but I wasn't scrambling desperately to silence the sudden alarm bells. So that's nicer.
Still, though, I do feel fairly sleepy today, but I expect that not to last.

Everyman, Day 12 ( Day 12 report )
As for today? My new alarm clock is very good at getting me out of bed. Very good. So this is the second day in a row of me getting absolutely only 3 hours of core sleep, especially after that day full of sleep I had on Thursday. And boy, do I feel like crap. Sleep is gnawing at me like hunger, and it took every ounce of willpower I had not to climb back into bed this morning, even after I finished my apple. My morning phase was characterized by me desperately trying to find something to do and not give in to the urge to close my eyes and relax, just for a little bit. I did manage it, though. I actually took my morning nap a bit early, at 9:00. I do feel better now, though. I still feel sleepy, but it isn't a constant battle to stay awake like it was this morning. The sun (and other people) being up helps a lot with that. Hopefully my afternoon nap will help me feel even better, and hopefully tomorrow will be easier on me. I guess we'll see.

So what is this poll thing, anyway? So now I have a comfortable pair of over-the-ear earphones and a nice wind-up alarm clock. And I got Pho! I had a great lunch break.
I've been thinking about this song from Rock Band.
( Lyrics to "Seven", by Vagiant )
Poll #1123503 Seven?

Desk phone! 11:12 AM me: *does not eat the phone handset while on the phone*11:13 AM Colin: You have such good ideas. me: It was a close thing, though. Colin: you lead a truly harrowing life 11:15 AM me: I mean, I'm on hold, and the handset is right next to my mouth, and I just wonder, how much of it could I fit in my mouth? But no, no, that's actually a bad idea, and I barely manage to avoid it. Colin: wow. 11:16 AM I could definitely fit my whole phone in my mouth me: Well, this wasn't a cell, it was the handset of my desk phone. Colin: Ohhh. I see. not ... cell phone? me: It sure was a close call, though. Colin: Desk ... phone? what's that? 11:17 AM You mean like a cell phone you left on a desk? me: It's like a regular phone, except it's huge and tied to the wall with a little rope and you keep it on a desk. Colin: What? Why would you do that? Why the rope? Is it a phone leash? me: I dunno? I guess to keep it from walking away? 11:18 AM But then again, these things don't usually even have a vibration function, so I don't know how they'd manage it in the first place. Colin: What do you do when you have to leave your desk? Can you take the rope off? 11:19 AM me: I don't think so. It has some sort of security system in place where if you take the rope off, it disables the phone and you can't make calls out. Maybe even can't get calls in, but I haven't tested that. Maybe the rope is to keep people from stealing it? 11:20 AM Colin: That makes sense. It'd also explain why it's big. me: I don't know why anyone would want to steal it, though. It's so huge I don't think it'd fit in my purse. Exactly. 11:21 AM Colin: Maybe I should get a "Desk Phone" for my house, so it's harder to steal. And I could get a rope for my bluetooth headset, so I don't lose it. Man, I should market home versions of Desk Phones! There's money to be made! me: Hey, yeah! I think you should probably not go for the ropes with the lockout security features, though. That'd probably get annoying real fast. 11:22 AM Colin: You're probably right.
